Vietnam and Denmark have taken a significant step forward in their diplomatic relations by agreeing to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. This development, announced during Vietnamese President and Communist Party General Secretary To Lam’s state visit to Denmark from October 19 to 21, 2026, marks an enhancement of their existing ties, coinciding with the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations. The new partnership aims to bolster cooperation in various areas, including trade, investment, technology, and sustainable development.
The partnership builds on previous agreements, such as the Comprehensive Partnership established in 2013 and the Green Strategic Partnership launched in 2023. Both countries are committed to expanding political dialogue, parliamentary exchanges, and economic collaboration, focusing on critical sectors like renewable energy, green technology, digital transformation, manufacturing, healthcare, education, and transport. Additionally, they aim to promote business investments, strengthen supply chains, and enhance market access through existing trade agreements.
In alignment with Vietnam’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, the two countries will deepen their cooperation on climate action, energy efficiency, and the development of renewable energy projects. The agreement also encompasses areas such as maritime security, cybersecurity, research, vocational training, agriculture, and public health.
Both nations reaffirmed their commitment to international law, multilateral cooperation, and the peaceful resolution of disputes, expressing support for regional stability, freedom of navigation, and stronger ties with ASEAN. This strategic partnership underscores a mutual dedication to fostering international collaboration and addressing global challenges.
To ensure the practical implementation of the partnership, both governments will develop action plans aimed at turning their commitments into tangible cooperation, thus paving the way for a strengthened and comprehensive bilateral relationship.
