Vietnam Urges Enhanced ASEAN Economic Involvement with Myanmar.

Date:

Vietnam has reiterated its dedication to aiding Myanmar through the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), underscoring that the Five-Point Consensus remains the essential framework for fostering peace and stability in the country. During an informal gathering of ASEAN foreign ministers in Bangkok, Vietnamese Foreign Minister Lê Hoài Trung highlighted Vietnam’s recognition of Myanmar as a vital member of the regional bloc. He emphasized Vietnam’s support for initiatives aimed at promoting national reconciliation, economic recovery, and improved governance in Myanmar.

Lê Hoài Trung urged ASEAN to adopt more practical and concrete measures, including maintaining regular dialogue and direct engagement with Myanmar. This approach, he suggested, would facilitate better monitoring of developments and encourage significant progress. In addition, Vietnam expressed its willingness to collaborate closely with the 2026 ASEAN Chair and other member nations to help Myanmar address social challenges, combat transnational crime, and enhance regional cooperation.

The ASEAN foreign ministers collectively reaffirmed their commitment to a Myanmar-led resolution through ongoing dialogue and the effective implementation of the Five-Point Consensus. This commitment is aimed at promoting peace, stability, and sustainable development throughout the region. The consensus serves as a central element in ASEAN’s strategy to support Myanmar in overcoming its current challenges.

ASEAN’s engagement with Myanmar is rooted in the belief that regional cooperation and solidarity are crucial in addressing the complex issues facing the country. By emphasizing dialogue and collaboration, ASEAN aims to support Myanmar in achieving long-term stability and development. The regional bloc continues to advocate for a peaceful resolution that is driven by Myanmar itself, with ASEAN providing necessary support and guidance.
