Vietnam’s Prime Minister, Lê Minh Hưng, has advocated for the establishment of a proficient, swiftly deployable international search and rescue team to bolster the nation’s participation in global humanitarian and disaster relief initiatives. This proposal was made during a ceremony that celebrated Vietnam’s rescue efforts in Venezuela after the country was struck by two devastating earthquakes.
At the event, the Prime Minister commended the 124-member team, comprising military and public security personnel, for their exceptional professionalism and commitment to humanitarian service. The team successfully managed to recover 57 victims, distribute 5.6 tonnes of relief supplies, deliver medical attention to over 130 residents, and contribute financial aid to the communities affected by the disaster.
Stressing the importance of enhancing Vietnam’s rescue operations, the Prime Minister urged relevant authorities to invest in modern equipment, provide specialized training, and foster improved coordination. He also emphasized the need for stronger international partnerships to ensure the effectiveness of future missions. Additionally, he called for increased support and acknowledgment for the personnel engaged in these overseas humanitarian efforts.
In recognition of their significant contributions, Venezuela honored Vietnam’s rescue delegation with the prestigious Hero of Venezuela Medal. This accolade highlights the profound impact of their efforts and the crucial role they played in aiding the recovery process for the affected communities.
