Vietnam Targets Increased Economic Partnerships with Leading South Korean Corporations

In a series of meetings in Seoul, Vietnam’s National Assembly President Trần Thanh Mẫn engaged with leaders of South Korea’s major conglomerates, advocating for increased investment in sectors such as high-tech industries, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, energy, and sustainable development. These discussions reflect Vietnam’s strategic push to attract high-quality foreign investment and bolster economic collaboration with South Korea, especially in advanced technology and digital industries.

Mẫn held talks with Samsung Electronics CEO Roh Tae-moon, where he lauded Samsung for its substantial contributions to Vietnam’s economy through investment, job creation, and support of local businesses. He urged Samsung to further expand its high-tech investments to enhance Vietnam’s economic development. Roh assured that Samsung would continue to align its undertakings with Vietnam’s developmental goals, emphasizing digital transformation, technological innovation, and workforce development. The company has been actively supporting Vietnamese businesses through initiatives in smart factories, automation, and skills development programs.

In another meeting, Mẫn conversed with SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won, encouraging the company to boost its investments in semiconductors, AI, renewable energy, and emission-reduction technologies. Mẫn expressed support for SK’s proposal to establish a large-scale AI center in Vietnam and its ambitions to explore investments in energy infrastructure and AI data centers. This dialogue underscores Vietnam’s ambition to position itself as a hub for technological and sustainable advancements.

During discussions with LG Innotek CEO Moon Hyuk-soo, Mẫn emphasized the significance of LG Group’s investment exceeding $10 billion in Vietnam. He urged LG to deepen its collaboration with Vietnamese suppliers and enhance technology and skills development. LG acknowledged Vietnam’s crucial role in its global production network, signaling a commitment to further integrate and expand operations within the country.

The series of high-level meetings also included discussions with Lotte Group Chairman Shin Dong-bin. Mẫn encouraged Lotte to expand its investments in smart urban development, infrastructure, tourism, and services, urging the company to expedite major projects while prioritizing sustainability, green development, and adherence to ESG standards. These engagements highlight Vietnam’s proactive approach in strengthening ties with South Korean companies to spur economic growth and technological progress.
