Vietnam, Malaysia Enhance Economic Ties for Defense and Regional Growth

Vietnam and Malaysia are intensifying their efforts to enhance defence cooperation, aiming to bolster bilateral relations and contribute to stability in the region. This development came to light during a meeting in Hanoi between Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister, General Phan Văn Giang, and Malaysia’s outgoing Ambassador, Dato’ Tan Yang Thai. General Giang commended the ambassador for his significant contributions toward fostering collaboration between the two nations.

During their discussions, General Giang emphasized the advancements made in defence relations between Vietnam and Malaysia. He pointed out the regular military exchanges that have taken place, as well as policy discussions and training initiatives that have strengthened cooperation. Additionally, the coordination at international and multilateral events has been a cornerstone of their defence relationship.

Looking towards the future, the Vietnamese defence leader underscored the importance of implementing existing agreements and called for more robust engagement through high-level meetings and defence cooperation mechanisms. He extended an invitation to Malaysia’s defence leaders and companies to participate in the Vietnam International Defence Expo 2026, scheduled to occur in Hanoi, as a means to further deepen their collaborative efforts.

Ambassador Dato’ Tan Yang Thai, reflecting on his tenure, expressed gratitude to Vietnam’s defence ministry and military for their support. He conveyed optimism that the defence ties between the two countries would continue to grow, thereby contributing to peace and prosperity in the region.
