The Smart Water Operation Centre in Thailand has issued a warning for residents to brace for ongoing rainfall and the potential for flooding, as the southwest monsoon intensifies across the nation. Officials have indicated that heavy and isolated showers are anticipated, particularly affecting the eastern territories and the western coast of Southern Thailand, prompting those residing in vulnerable areas to stay vigilant against flash floods and forest runoff.
Weather authorities have highlighted that the increased strength of the southwest monsoon is influencing weather patterns over the Andaman Sea, throughout Thailand, and around the Gulf of Thailand. Additionally, a monsoon trough extending across the northern parts of the country and into Vietnam is further contributing to the widespread occurrence of thunderstorms.
Forecasts predict that from June 30 to July 3, there will be sporadic storms accompanied by heavy rain, posing the greatest threat to eastern Thailand and the southern west coast. The weather system is expected to bring continued rainfall from July 4 to July 6 as it progresses northward, with Thailand remaining under the influence of robust southwest winds during this period.
Authorities have advised communities to remain informed about the current weather conditions and to be prepared for sudden flooding in areas deemed at risk. Staying alert and taking necessary precautions can help mitigate the potential impact of these weather events.
