Vietnam and Switzerland are working to strengthen their long-standing relationship and broaden cooperation in various fields, including trade, investment, innovation, and science and technology. This focus was highlighted during an event in Bern commemorating Vietnam’s National Day and the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Nguyễn Thị Thanh, the Vietnamese National Assembly Vice President, emphasized the importance Vietnam places on its relationship with Switzerland. She acknowledged Switzerland’s support during significant periods in Vietnam’s history and noted the positive developments in bilateral ties across politics, trade, investment, education, and technology sectors.
Thanh expressed Vietnam’s intention to deepen cooperation by building on political trust and traditional friendship while expanding economic collaboration, especially in areas where Switzerland has expertise and Vietnam has growing needs. The economic partnership remains a cornerstone of their relations, with trade exceeding $2 billion annually and over 100 Swiss companies actively investing in Vietnam in sectors like pharmaceuticals, food processing, precision machinery, and watchmaking.
Swiss Senator Mauro Poggia highlighted the significant expansion of cooperation since Vietnam initiated its economic renewal process, recognizing Switzerland’s role in supporting Vietnam’s economic transformation and sustainable development.
Vietnamese Ambassador to Switzerland Châu Mai Anh pointed to the establishment of a Comprehensive Partnership in 2025 and the successful conclusion of free trade agreement negotiations with the European Free Trade Association as key milestones in their bilateral relations. Both countries see potential for further collaboration in innovation, digital transformation, sustainable development, finance, and human resource development.
