During a pivotal meeting in Baku on October 14, Vietnamese Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan engaged in discussions with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva. The talks were centered on fortifying bilateral relations and enhancing cooperation across various sectors as part of Xuan’s visit for the seventh Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA).
The discussions underscored a mutual commitment to advancing the Vietnam-Azerbaijan Strategic Partnership, a relationship that was established following the visit of Vietnamese Party General Secretary To Lam to Azerbaijan in 2025. Both countries are keen on exploring and expanding economic, trade, and investment cooperation, with a focus on key sectors such as oil and gas, energy, transport, agriculture, tourism, education, science, and technology.
Efforts to boost joint energy projects and encourage business investments were highlighted as priorities. Additionally, the leaders discussed the potential benefits of visa exemptions for ordinary passport holders and the establishment of direct air routes to facilitate travel, tourism, and business exchanges, reflecting a shared interest in enhancing people-to-people connections.
Beyond economic ties, the dialogues also emphasized cooperation in cultural and educational exchanges, as well as in the industries of mining and aluminium production. Both nations are committed to strengthening high-level exchanges, improving coordination between government agencies, and effectively implementing existing bilateral agreements.
On a global scale, Vietnam and Azerbaijan pledged to deepen their collaboration at regional and international forums. They expressed strong support for multilateralism and a commitment to upholding the United Nations Charter and international law, signaling a shared vision for global cooperation.
