Thailand has declared Bangkok as a disaster-affected area following days of relentless rainfall that have led to extensive flooding across the capital. The severe weather conditions have disrupted traffic and made movement difficult throughout the city, prompting the government to take emergency action.
The disaster declaration, which encompasses all 50 districts of Bangkok, empowers authorities to implement a series of emergency measures. These measures include accelerating drainage operations, setting up temporary shelters, and providing support for bedridden patients and other vulnerable residents.
Efforts are also being directed toward assessing the damage to both public and private properties to ensure that assistance and compensation can be provided to the impacted communities. In response to the crisis, Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt has instructed relevant agencies to coordinate these emergency measures and ensure rapid aid delivery to affected residents.
Since Thursday, Bangkok has recorded nearly 300 millimeters of rainfall, resulting in significant waterlogging and flooding on roads in various parts of the city. The heavy downpour has compounded the challenges faced by residents and authorities alike, necessitating swift and effective responses to mitigate the impact on daily life and infrastructure.
