As Vietnam aims to enhance its trade and investment relations with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and Egypt, the focus is squarely on widening market access and boosting economic partnerships. Vietnamese Vice President Võ Thị Ánh Xuân has emphasized the importance of maximizing the Vietnam-EAEU Free Trade Agreement to elevate bilateral trade and investment levels. She suggested potential upgrades to the agreement and called on the EAEU to tackle trade barriers impacting Vietnam’s textile, footwear, and rice sectors.
In discussions with EAEU representatives, both parties explored ways to enhance the coordination of trade data, speed up the convening of their joint committee, and expand the use of electronic certificates of origin. EAEU officials noted that bilateral trade figures had nearly doubled, underscoring the potential for further growth opportunities.
At a separate meeting with Egypt’s Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, Hussein Mohamed Ahmed Eissa, Xuân pushed for more robust high-level exchanges and deeper economic ties between Vietnam and Egypt. She encouraged steps toward establishing a Vietnam-Egypt free trade agreement, highlighting agriculture, infrastructure, tourism, digital transformation, education, and renewable energy as promising areas for expanded cooperation.
The discussions took place in Bishkek, where Vietnam was participating in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Plus Summit. This participation is part of Hanoi’s broader efforts to bolster economic and diplomatic relationships with regional partners. By taking these steps, Vietnam seeks to position itself strategically within a network of emerging markets and regional alliances.
