In a bid to enhance collaboration between Vietnam and northeastern Cambodia, Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia Nguyễn Minh Vũ recently led a delegation to the provinces of Stung Treng and Kratie. The visit aimed to bolster ties between localities and assess the contributions of Vietnamese enterprises and the living conditions of the Vietnamese-origin community in the region.
Throughout the visit, discussions with Cambodian officials centered on expanding partnerships in various sectors including trade, agriculture, infrastructure, energy, and investment. Cambodian leaders acknowledged the strengthening of relations with Vietnamese provinces through cooperation agreements, business exchanges, and joint development initiatives. In Kratie, local authorities commended the diplomatic and socio-economic progress achieved alongside Vietnam, highlighting endeavors in infrastructure support and collaborative efforts to locate and repatriate the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers who perished during the war in Cambodia.
Ambassador Nguyễn Minh Vũ recognized the positive impact of Vietnamese businesses engaged in agriculture, mining, and rubber production within Cambodia. He noted that these enterprises have significantly contributed to local economic development and further solidified bilateral ties. Meanwhile, Stung Treng officials expressed the province’s investment potential, particularly in high-tech agriculture and eco-tourism, and urged more Vietnamese companies to explore opportunities in these sectors.
Additionally, the ambassador engaged with representatives from the Vietnamese-origin community, addressing legal and livelihood challenges. He underscored the importance of adhering to local regulations and emphasized support for education and sustainable development within the community.
Vietnam’s investment footprint in Cambodia is substantial, with over 200 projects and a total registered capital of approximately $3 billion, positioning the country as one of Cambodia’s largest foreign investors.
