The 16th National Assembly of Vietnam is preparing to convene its first extraordinary session in Hanoi, spanning from August 3 to August 24. During this session, legislators are scheduled to engage in discussions on an expansive legislative agenda, as well as significant national projects that are on the horizon.
Throughout the session, a total of 33 agenda items are set for consideration. These include the approval of 15 draft laws and four draft resolutions, alongside the first readings of an additional seven bills. Lawmakers will also deliberate on seven pressing national issues. The proposed legislation spans a variety of sectors, encompassing petroleum, urban development, anti-money laundering, telecommunications, customs, investment, publishing, and national defense.
In addition to legislative matters, the session will focus on reviewing pivotal infrastructure and development projects. Among these are the Hanoi Ring Road No. 5, proposed changes to the Lào Cai–Hà Nội–Hải Phòng railway project, and the Ninh Thuận nuclear power initiative. The establishment of new cities in Quảng Ninh and Bắc Ninh is also on the agenda, reflecting the country’s ongoing urban development efforts.
Special policy mechanisms are another key area of attention for the assembly. These include initiatives related to renewable energy, the preparations for APEC 2027 projects, and strategies for digital transformation. Each of these elements underscores Vietnam’s ambitions to bolster its infrastructure and modernize various facets of the nation’s economy and governance.
