Thailand Boosts Trade with Enhanced Air Links to Vietnam, UAE

Date:

Thailand is set to enhance its global aviation links through collaborations with Vietnam Airlines and flydubai, coupled with upgrades to its regional airport infrastructure. These efforts aim to boost connectivity and bolster tourism in the country.

On July 2, Vietnam Airlines inaugurated a new air route connecting Ho Chi Minh City and Phuket. This service, offering four flights weekly, is designed to cater to the increasing number of travelers from Vietnam. In the first six months of the year, over 300,000 Vietnamese tourists visited Thailand, underscoring the growing demand for such connectivity. The route will provide an annual capacity of approximately 39,500 seats, addressing this burgeoning interest.

Simultaneously, flydubai has launched daily flights between Dubai and Bangkok, starting July 1. The airline plans to further enhance this connection by increasing the frequency to twice daily from September 15. This expansion is expected to strengthen links between the United Arab Emirates and Thailand, offering more options for travelers and boosting bilateral tourism.

In addition to these airline partnerships, Thailand is making strides in improving its regional airport systems. The country plans to implement the Aerodrome Flight Information Service (AFIS) at select regional airports to enhance air traffic management and operational efficiency, as well as to improve access to secondary cities. The initial rollout of the AFIS system is scheduled for Phrae and Phetchabun airports by 2028, with the potential for further expansion to other regional airports.

These initiatives reflect Thailand’s strategic efforts to fortify its position as a key travel hub in Southeast Asia, leveraging improved aviation networks and infrastructure to attract more visitors and support the growth of its tourism sector.
