Hà Nội Pressed to Boost Economic Growth with Sustainable Practices

Date:

Vietnam’s capital, Hà Nội, has been urged by the country’s Party General Secretary and State President, Tô Lâm, to pursue a path of accelerated economic growth while maintaining a focus on sustainability and quality of life improvements for its citizens. In discussions with the city’s leadership, Tô Lâm commended the progress made in institutional reforms and infrastructure development but highlighted areas requiring further attention, such as the city’s slower-than-expected growth and the underutilization of resources.

The Party General Secretary emphasized the importance of unlocking these idle resources and speeding up the completion of crucial infrastructure projects. He pointed out that the delays in major urban projects could hinder Hà Nội’s potential for growth and development. Tô Lâm also called for enhanced support for businesses, tourism, and innovation, along with improvements in public services to bolster the city’s economy.

To address specific challenges, Tô Lâm identified several priority areas for the city. Reducing traffic congestion and tackling pollution emerged as major concerns, alongside the need for expanded housing solutions. Furthermore, he stressed the importance of investing in education, healthcare, and digital transformation as vital components for sustaining the city’s growth and improving the quality of life for its residents.

Hà Nội’s leadership has set an ambitious target, aiming for an 11% growth in its Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) by 2026. This comes after the city achieved an 8.22% economic growth rate in the first half of the year, surpassing the national average. By addressing the highlighted challenges and capitalizing on its strengths, Hà Nội hopes to meet its economic objectives while ensuring sustainable development.
