In a bid to bolster Vietnam’s trade and economic growth, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyễn Văn Thắng has reached out to key international organizations for support. During recent meetings in Switzerland, Thắng emphasized the importance of enhancing collaboration with both the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the World Economic Forum (WEF). His appeal is rooted in the desire to stimulate investment, trade, and long-term economic development in Vietnam.
Nguyễn Văn Thắng expressed Vietnam’s dedication to maintaining a rules-based global trading system, urging the WTO to quicken its pace in implementing necessary reforms. He highlighted the urgency of restoring the organization’s dispute settlement mechanism and advocated for an expanded focus that includes emerging sectors such as digital trade, artificial intelligence, climate change, and strengthening supply chain resilience. This strategic approach underscores Vietnam’s ambition to navigate and thrive in an increasingly complex global economic landscape.
Thắng outlined Vietnam’s ambitious economic vision, aiming to achieve high-income status by the year 2045. He called upon the WEF to enhance collaborative efforts by fostering investment opportunities, driving innovation, and cultivating public-private partnerships. Additionally, he proposed the development of international financial centers as a pivotal component of this cooperation, which could play a significant role in Vietnam’s economic transformation.
Officials from both the WTO and WEF responded positively to Vietnam’s initiatives, applauding the nation’s ongoing economic reforms. They assured continued support in areas of trade, investment, and capacity-building initiatives, recognizing Vietnam as a dynamic participant in the global economy. Their commitment signals a strengthening of international ties that could provide Vietnam with the necessary tools and resources to achieve its long-term economic goals.
