Vietnam is actively enhancing its role in strengthening ties between ASEAN and Russia, following the successful ASEAN–Russia Commemorative Summit, which celebrated 35 years of dialogue relations. The summit underscored ASEAN’s central role in the region, with Vietnam playing a pivotal part in its success. Foreign Minister Lê Hoài Trung emphasized Vietnam’s contributions in promoting the bloc’s strategic partnership with Russia, highlighting their joint commitment to fostering collaboration in key sectors.

Under the leadership of Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng, the Vietnamese delegation stressed the importance of dialogue and cooperation, advocating for peaceful resolutions to disputes and adherence to international law. Vietnam proposed expanding joint efforts in strategic areas such as energy, trade, transport connectivity, agriculture, and digital transformation. This proposal aligns with the summit’s adoption of new frameworks designed to bolster ASEAN–Russia cooperation through 2030, with a particular focus on energy as a foundational aspect of their partnership.

In a move reflecting Vietnam’s commitment to future regional cooperation, the country announced plans to host the ASEAN–Russia Young Diplomats Summit in 2027. This initiative underscores Vietnam’s dedication to nurturing the next generation of leaders in the region. The outcomes of the summit are expected to reinforce ASEAN–Russia relations, contributing to regional stability and opening new avenues for economic growth and collaboration across Eurasia.

During the summit, Prime Minister Hưng engaged in talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, where both leaders reiterated their commitment to strengthening the Vietnam–Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Their discussions centered on expanding cooperation in key domains such as energy, trade, infrastructure, science and technology, education, and transport. These discussions highlight the mutual interest in deepening bilateral ties and enhancing collaborative efforts in various sectors.

Vietnam’s proactive role in the summit and its initiatives signal a promising trajectory for ASEAN–Russia relations, with potential benefits extending across the Eurasian region. The summit’s achievements not only pave the way for greater economic cooperation but also promote a stable and prosperous future for ASEAN and its partners.
